Read to Someone
Today we introduced "Read to Someone" as part of our Daily 5 literacy block. Students read quietly with a partner to recognize sight words, "read the pictures", and practice their fluency. They did a great job sitting EEKK (elbow-elbow-knee-knee) while practicing their reading!!

Parent Power Night
Parent Power Night will be this Thursday at 6:00 in the cafeteria. The workshop will focus on building literacy skills at home and information will be provided in English and Spanish. Childcare will be provided in the gym with a movie and popcorn for the kids. Hope you can make it to Douglas on Thursday night!
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Just a reminder that we do not have school on Monday, January 20, in honor of the MLK holiday. We read the story "Martin's Big Words" to learn about the importance of Dr. King. Please take this opportunity to talk to your child about Dr. King and his impact on society.
Shape Monsters
Check out our Shape Monsters we made using flat, 2-D shapes that we have been learning about in math!

If I Were a Snowman at Night...
After reading "Snowmen at Night", we wrote about what we would do if we were snowmen at night! Then, we created snowmen using shapes from our geometry unit.
