Read to Self

Today we started "Read to Self" as part of our Daily 5 Literacy component.  Each day students will build their stamina for reading,  Talk to your child about the importance of reading every day, have them model correct and incorrect "Read to Self" behaviors, and practice at home!  In kindergarten we teach our children three ways to read a book-- reading the pictures, reading the words, and retelling the story.  Daily 5, or Daily Cafe, is implemented K-5 at Douglas Elementary and across many schools in Wake County.

Sight Words

End of the Year
Can you believe it is May?!  The end of the year is quickly approaching.  It is IMPERATIVE to your child’s success that they are practicing their sight words every night.  It would be great to make flash cards of the sight words.  We are beginning our End-of-Year assessments this week and in order for your child to be on grade level they need to know these words.  Also, please read with your child every night!

Thank you for all of your hard work, we appreciate everything you do to help your child succeed!
